How to Glow When it's Cold! Skin Care Routine!

Some of you have been asking for me to share my skincare routine and so here it is!

I’ll start this off by saying I’ve never actually suffered from severe acne at all. Genetically I have always had clear skin. However going into my twenties I did begin to notice that I was having a bit more acne than usual and that my days of not really paying attention to my skin were over. Especially with the winter coming around, I noticed that my skin wasn’t glowing as it did in the summer. I began to do some research on skin care and was able to come up with a small system that has been keeping my skin glowing throughout the cold months!

I recommend finding what products work for you, but generally you will want to follow the order that I have here.

1. Cleanser

2. Toner

3. Moisturizer

You’ll want to start with your cleanser. I use the Olehenriksen Face the Truth Gel  Cleanser. When washing your face you’ll want to work in circular upwards motion to ensure that you are getting into your pores! Afterwords you’ll want to use a toner. I usually use cotton pads and  Witch Hazel Toner from Amazon. This time you’ll want to move in upwards motion but not circular. Toner will help grab any dirt or bacteria that you missed when cleansing! After toning I like to use the Olehenriksen Truth Serum along with the Olehenriksen C-Rush Brightening Gel Cream to restore some moisture to my skin! If I don’t have a ton of coin to spend on Sephora, I’ll use raw shea butter that I purchase from my local African beauty store which works just as well and another cleanser from Sephora that has the clean label on it.

I bought all three Olehenriksen products at Sephora for $42 in a kit.  I’ve only been using it for about two months but I’ve seen great results. Honestly, any skin care products with vitamin C will do but this kit is what worked for me! Products with vitamin C are great for the skin for a couple of reasons.

  • Boosts Collagen Production - gives you firmer, more plump skin, smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles

  • Helps with skin regeneration/healing

  • Brightens Dark Spots - helps with discolouration, acne scaring

If your whole skin care routine does not have vitamin c that’s fine! Just purchasing a serum will work as well!

When talking about skin care I should also mention that it’s important to be wary of everything that touches your face throughout the day! Something a lot of people overlook is their pillowcase! Make sure you are washing your pillowcase regularly as it does collect a lot of bacteria. If you can, it may be worth investing in a satin pillowcase as they are gentler on the skin.

Diet plays a big part in the health of your skin as well! Whatever you are putting in your  body will show up on your face. Make sure you’re drinking your water and eating right!

I’ll provide you all with an updated skin care routine as I’m always trying new products to see what works. For now this is my regime and so I hope it works for you!
